One-day off-road driving class

Give us one day and we’ll make you a better driver.

Our One-Day Off-Road Driving class is the perfect choice for those who are either new to off-road driving or are looking for a refresher to complement their existing skill set.

For those of you who have just purchased your first four-wheel-drive truck or SUV, this is your opportunity to learn about your vehicle’s systems and capabilities. When you leave, you’ll be a much more competent, capable, and knowledgeable off-road driver.

Our one-day program packs a lot into your time on the trails of our purpose-built driving course. You’ll be introduced (or reintroduced) to the ins and outs of off-road vehicles before you even start your engine. When it’s time to get driving, we’ll spend most of the day learning the basics of how to approach and negotiate the different types of obstacles you’ll encounter on the trail. The one-day program also includes an introduction to recovery, for when things don’t go to plan.

This class includes:
  • The 5 Vehicle Systems™ - What they are and why they are important.
  • OEX Method – How proper wheel placement will allow you to safely navigate, hills, side slopes, ditches, moguls, and moderate rock.
  • Pre-Drive vehicle check and preparation.
  • Proper driver position, wheel grip, and steering management.
  • Left foot braking techniques.
  • The proper and safe way to descend and climb hills.
  • Proper transmission and transfer case/center differential gear selection and choice.
  • Correct spotting techniques and hand signals.
  • Recovery introduction, equipment terminology, and proper selection.
  • Know your vehicle – What to buy and modify and what not to.

Our group driving classes are limited to 12 students to provide for an effective student-to-instructor ratio, and an inviting and relaxed atmosphere.

I only wish I had done something like this class many years ago - I’ve owned at least one 4WD vehicle of some type since 1986, but other than lots of miles on FS roads and timberland tracts, etc., have never really understood how to use my various vehicles capabilities. After Saturday - I have the beginnings of a solid start to understanding better. I found your explanations of the mechanics to be especially helpful; now I get why I’ve run into various issues over the years not having what I felt like should have been better traction - I just didn’t really know how to use what I already had in my hands. So many paths over the decades I’ve wanted to take in my 4WDs but didn’t because I lacked confidence and knowledge."
